FAQs

Do I need a boating license to rent a boat in Santorini?

No. Greek law allows anyone to operate a boat with an engine under 30 horsepower without a license. All our rental boats are under that limit. We give you a full briefing before you head out so you know how everything works, even if you've never been on a boat before.

How much does fuel cost?

Fuel is not included in the rental price. You pay for what you use when you return. Most half day trips use around €40 to €60 worth of fuel depending on how far you go and how fast you drive. Full day trips use more, usually €60 to €100.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If conditions are too rough for a safe trip, we'll contact you to reschedule for another day. If you can't reschedule during your stay, you'll get a full refund. We check the forecast closely and won't send you out if it's not safe.

Where is SEAGOLD located?

We're at Ammoudi Bay, the small harbor at the bottom of the 300 steps from Oia. If you're staying in Oia, Fira, or Imerovigli, we're much closer than the boat rental companies at Vlychada Marina on the south side of the island.

What's included with the boat rental?

Every rental includes a GPS loaded with waypoints for beaches, the volcano, hot springs, and good swimming spots. You also get life jackets, a bimini for shade, snorkeling gear, and a cooler with water and snacks. The only extra cost is fuel.

How many people can fit on the boat?

Our boats hold up to 5 people comfortably. If you have a larger group, you can rent multiple boats or book a private tour on our RIB which fits more.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Yes. We provide water and snacks, but you're welcome to bring a picnic, lunch, or drinks. There's a cooler on board to keep things cold.

How long is the briefing before we go out?

About 30 minutes. We walk you through how to start and stop the boat, how to use the anchor, where the safety equipment is, and give you tips on where to go based on conditions that day. If you've never driven a boat, don't worry. Most of our customers haven't either.

Where can we go with the rental boat?

You can explore anywhere around Santorini. Most people visit the volcano and hot springs, Red Beach, White Beach, and Thirassia Island. We'll mark all the good spots on the GPS before you leave. You cannot take the rental boats to other islands like Anafi or Ios. For those trips, you need to book a private tour with a captain.

Can we swim during the rental?

Absolutely. That's half the point. Anchor at a beach, jump in, use the snorkeling gear, take your time. The boat is yours for the rental period so you decide when and where to stop.

What time can we pick up the boat?

Boats are available from 9 in the morning until sunset. For half day rentals, you can choose morning or afternoon. If you want to catch the sunset from the water, book an afternoon slot.

How do I book?

You can book online through our booking site or message us on WhatsApp at +30 697 4554002. We usually reply within a few hours. For peak season dates in July and August, book at least a few days ahead.
